Internet Shopping vs High Street Shopping – Which is Best?
When you think about shopping, do you associate high street shopping or shopping on the Internet as your preferred medium? There are understandably, advantages and disadvantages to each but which one is better overall? This could all depend upon on your personal preference or what is the most convenient for the purchase of products at a given time. This can also be determined by availability. A number of goods may only be obtainable either from a physical shop or online.
Twenty four hour convenience
In today’s hectic 24 hour society when all things are driven by availability and time the Internet can be an invaluable source when used properly. When a considerable amount of people seem to have a distinct lack of time, the Internet is usually utilised for the purchase of goods. It can also be a valuable starting point if a shopper is looking for information but wanting to actually buy a product in a shop or at a physical place instead of on the Internet. A good example of this is purchasing a car. Frequently information is searched for regarding potential purchases online but then the actual sale comes from a dealership. This is also true of buying property. Information can often be gleaned from an estate agency or property website beforehand but the actual purchase is made on the high street. The Internet can also be good if you do not have much time. If you know precisely what you are looking for, need something quickly but don’t have enough time to go to the high street during your normal working week, you can order something through the Internet and it can arrive the following day.
Ordering online can save time
It can clearly be a benefit to do some of your shopping online. For example, you can save at least an hour per week if you select your grocery shopping online and have it delivered to your property. The only downside to this is the charge incurred for the delivery each time you have it delivered. Purchasing items such as books and CDs on the Internet can also save time. In a lot of cases items such as these may also be less expensive to purchase online than on the high street. The world wide web can also be a invaluable source for the research and the purchase of non everyday items such as sex toys, birthday or Christmas gifts and jewellery. Doing banking online can also be a far more convenient method of transferring money from one account to another than going into a high street bank or building society.
The plus points of the high street
If you have the time for a good peruse, the high street can be a better option. If you buy clothes from the high street, trying the items on in a changing room before purchase guarantees that the garments are the correct fit. If you are buying clothes online, unless you have exactly the same item in your wardrobe already, you can’t assure that it will fit. If you purchase the item online from a reputable e-retailer and it doesn’t fit you can of course send it back and in most instances exchange or refund it. If however you want to surprise a loved one with some sexy lingerie, as long as you are aware of what size they take, then either online or the high street should work equally as well. Whatever you want or need to purchase as a customer, the high street offers the advantage of permitting you to view the physical product whether it be a CD, a book, shoes or clothing etc. The high street is also incredibly convenient if you want to quickly buy a sandwich and/or a drink from a newsagent or a cafe and take it away with you. It also acts as a browsing ground. For example, you might want to buy a new electrical item like a television and have seen it at a less expensive price online but want to see it in the flesh prior to purchase. As previously mentioned, the same can also be said for the Internet.
On the whole there are advantages and disadvantages to buying goods through either means. If you are time restricted for whatever reason, the Internet can be more convenient. However, if you have more time to browse and wish to view the physical goods before you buy them, the high street can be more enjoyable. Essentially it depends upon personal preference as to what works the best for the individual.
